Exclamation Audio Problems, In PC Not My Headset

Hi,

i am currently having trouble hearing through my new headset... i know that it is not the headset itself becuase i bought a new one and it is great, anyway i have tryed phoning the company that the product is made from and i am told that they are not open till like weekdays and guess what ti is friday night .

So the PC itself is to blame... but also i can speak through the mic on my headset and the sound goes to other people but i can hear nothing at all, i also have some files on the device manager which has one (!) which i think is causing the problem but i do not know how to fix it...

Ok, so i have Audio Codecs, Advance AC`79 Audio For VIA (R) Audio Controller, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver ( Note: Its Got An (!) Mark On It ), MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device, Standdard Game Port, Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device, USB Audio Device, Video Codecs.

Right, above is all the devices in Sound, Video And Game Controllers and one last thing i also get the message when im trying to record my own voice on sound recorder ( error ) " Another application is recording audio. Stop recording with this other application and then try to record with Sound Recorder again.

Thanks, Giwin.

Try uninstalling the 'Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver' entry in your devices and reboot the computer. Your issue is also related in this forum post on Lockergnome.

If that doesn't work, try visiting www.windowsupdate.com and selecting the 'Custom' button to check for updates. Once finished checking, on the left-hand menu there is a 'Hardware, Optional' type link. There could possibly be a driver update for the 'Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver'. If there is, mark the check box next to it for download, and then 'Review and install updates'.

You can call (520) 626-TECH for additional assistance if you do not feel comfortable with performing this. Please let us know if this did or did not solve your problem.

I had the same problem that Giwin did, (with Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver not working, nothing about the headset) and I deleted it and my sound now works. Do I need to redownload it, and if I do, where should I?

If you have an answer, I'd be greatful if you could contact me at

AIM: Apocalidiot

or just in this thread.

Thanks.

If your sound is working after, then you shouldn't have to worry about reinstalling it etc.

I'm having the same problem, I uninstalled the WNMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver after it had the !, and when that didn't fix anything, I searched windows update for extra hardware, but found nothing. I might mention that though I have everything installed for my Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit, under the device manager, and under 'other devices' there are two large yellow question marks. one is the PCI modem, which I don't need, having an ethernet card, and the other is 'multimedia audio controller', which I definitely DO need. some help, please.

Does your board have an integrated sound controller? That's what the multimedia audio controller probably is.
Most on-board sound is AC'97, you can find drivers for that online pretty easily. If that doesn't do it for the on-board sound, look at the model number of your PC (or motherboard if it was a custom build) and find the integrated sound card type that way.

Another possibility:
You may need to either look on the board itself, or in the BIOS, for a setting to switch cards so that the on-board sound is disabled, leaving everything to your soundblaster.

Unhappy Sound issues

Hey ppl, i need some hlp, iv got an acer travelmate 3260 with ALC883 audio codec/realtek high def. audio. Problem is when i insert headphones into the line out/spdif, i get no sound through the headphones but as soon as i pull out the jack, the sound works perfectly through the built in speakers. iv deleted the winmm audio driver along wid some other sound criteria but it still dont work. iv tried updating the realtek drivers and tried older version but nothing. Iv even installed xp again and the sound through the headphones work perfectly but after 2-3 windows restarts it goes bust again, the closest i got to success was the R32 driver which works, only problem is when the headphones are connected i get sound through the headphones and the built-in speakers at the same time.(p.s the headphones work perfectly)

This problem has really got me on da edge, plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help

Well if the sound doesn't re-route automatically from the speakers to only the headphones when you plug in headphones to the headphone jack, sounds like something wrong w/ the laptop to me, since that kinda defeats the purpose of having a headphone jack. I'd personally call Acer and see what they have to say about it. Also, you can always bring it into the OSCR Help Desk on Monday, we've got walk-ins from 9-4 all week.

it was recently replaced to a new device but same one exactly
I didnt have any problems what so ever in the begining with reinstalling it and it worked perfectly with music editing programs
how ever, sound never came out through windows media player/vlc/just general windows(xp)
on "audio devices" the only choice I had was "soundmax" driver or nothing,
on top of everything today the "WINMM WDM audio compatibility" is not functioning and I have no Idea where to download a new one from...
and ever since that happend on "sounds and audio devices" the computer writes no audio device and gives me no options
