Adobe PDF and word

I am preparing my PhD thesis in a word document and I need to include 2 published papers that are in PDF format. The PDF files must be reformated to follow the University guidelines (font type and margins). Is there a way to input this PDF files into word and to be able to make this changes?
My name is Chris and my email is christi@ag.arizona.edu.
Thanks!

Mostly it depends on the PDF you're trying to edit. If you can select the text, you can cut and paste it into Word. However if the PDF is really just an image file, you're out of luck. You should be able to select text (if allowed/possible) from within Adobe Reader, click on the I beam tool next to the hand tool.

Another thing that can be done, if the copy/paste doesn't work, is importing the PDF into Photoshop, and exporting them all as images. Then, use an OCR program to go through and grab the text. This would require proof reading to catch any misreads, but generally would work.

If they're published papers, they shouldn't be images. The copy/paste thing should work. Or just use a copy of Acrobat.

You also may be able to find the papers in plain text on http://scholar.google.com. It's worth a shot

Covert PDF files to Microsoft Word Documents.
Open the PDF files in Adobe Acrobat and resave them as Microsoft Word Documents when you click 'File', 'Save As' and select 'Microsoft Word Document' from the 'Format:' drop down menu. Then insert the documents into the appropriated location in your dissertation by selecting 'Insert', ' File'. I would first create seperate sections for each file your going to insert to issolate the formating and make sure that the inserted documents don't affect the formating of all my document.

I have worked with several PDF to Word conversion tools. If you don't mind spending a few bucks, then "AutoDWG" produces rather good results. You can get a try with it:
