Realtek ac97

ive got a realtek ac 97 sound card and everytime i try to record my microphone it record my speakers to and i just want it to record my microphone only please help!!!

Ok well there are two things I would check first. 1st is "Are you using headphones?". If you don't, the sound going into the mic will come out of the speakers (...and back into the mic). Easiest way to prevent that is with headphones. 2nd is "Are they plugged in correctly?" Most computers will have slots that are color coded. Your speakers should be plugged into the green and your microphone should be plugged into the pink.

If yes to both, then you need to check the settings in the application you are using to record your voice. Somewhere in there, there will be the option to select the "source". Set it to your microphone (sometimes called line-in).

If all else fails, unplug your speakers and record the audio anyways then plug them back in when you are done.
