From the University Information Security Office...
__________________________________________________ ____________
The Information Security Office has been made aware of two types of phishing attempts recently being received by members of the University community.
One is an attempt to extort money from email recipients. The sender
threatens to assassinate the recipient unless the recipient pays $5,000
installments to the sender of the email.
The other is an attempt to obtain information on passwords for University
email accounts. This email demands that the recipient reply to the email
and provide personal information. This email should not be confused with
the messages being sent by the UA NetID Administrator about the UA NetID
password change.
We recommend the following to recipients of these phishing attempts:
Delete the scam email message.
Do not respond to the sender.
There is no need contact the UAPD or the Information Security Office to report receiving the email. However, if you forward the email with extended headers to abuse@email.arizona.edu, we can filter messages from the sender.
If you have responded to one of the email messages, please feel free to contact the Information Security Office at 626-8232.
