Another Interesting Audition 1.5 Problem

I can record one track without any problems, but when I'm playing the track back through headphones and trying to accompany on a second track, the 1st track rerecords itself on the second track along with the accompaniment. WTF? Has anyone heard of this problem before? Is it the laptop, the sound card, the program?
