According to this page, https://www.sirt.arizona.edu/wireless/cca/howtoPublic.html , IMAP is enabled for UAPublic. Is this true or not? My settings use port 993 for incoming ssl IMAP and port 587 for outgoing tls SMTP, but I think 465 ssl is allowed for outgoing, too.

If this is not going to work, is it possible for me to set up my own VPN connection over one of the ports that is open?

I know nothing about what ports are open or not, but I am able to use UAPublic, startup Cisco's VPN client, and then IMAP fine.

One annoyance is that you can't connect the VPN right away, you HAVE to open a web browser and agree to the UAPublic stuff. Once that is done, VPN works fine. You may see if that helps with the IMAP ports also.

UAPublic has most secure ports open along with a few other ports such as port 80 for web traffic. I can confirm that ports 993, 587, and 465 are indeed all open on UAPublic. What type of device are you using, and have you opened a web browser and accepted the AUP before trying to connect via secure IMAP?

It's exciting that IMAP has been added to UAPublic!

For those of you who don't know, an AUP is an 'acceptable use policy' ... in this case it's a web page that comes up and asks you to agree to the campus policies by clicking the 'I agree' button. After you agree to the terms and conditions, you are free to browse or check your email (via IMAP) for a period of time (I believe one hour) without any hassles. After that, you have to go back to your browser and accept the terms of the AUP again before continuing to work.

For those of you that want detailed information about the campus wireless networks, you can go to http://uawifi.arizona.edu and click the network of your choice to see detailed information (UAWiFi, UAGuest, or UAPublic)

Wow, you guys are fast! Thanks for the replies. I haven't actually got my wireless set up yet (waiting for Santa to bring me a laptop), I was just checking ahead of time.

If I have any troubles getting IMAP to work, I will be sure to post back here.
