I have been searching through a bunch of threads looking for an answer to a problem I am having with port forwarding and have only found bits and pieces of a workable solution. Thus I am beginning a new thread to find some help.
I am currently using 2 routers at my house. One is a linksys BEFRS41 (192.186.1.1) which is wired to my cable modem and also a linksys WRT54GS (192.168.1.2) which I believe I have setup as an access point (i.e. I have disabled dhcp and changed the setting from gateway to router). The BEFRS41 provides access to all the wired PCs in the house and the WRT54GS provides access to the laptops.
My problem is that I am unable to successfully port forward anything through the second router which provides internet to my laptop. Specifically, I am trying to get transmission to work with my macbook. Prior to any port forwarding the program says it has successfully mapped a port (9090) but that the port is closed. I have forwarded this port in the BEFRS41 to 198.186.1.2 and also forwarded it in the WRT54GS to my mackbook (198.186.1.100). Also, I have allowed access through the macbook's firewall. After all this the program says the port is stealth (and stealth mode is not enabled on the mac).
After reading several threads my belief is I need to setup a static route for the WRT54GS, but I am not sure how to do this (i.e. I do not know which IP to pick, Subnet, Gateway, DNS, etc.)
If anyone has any insights they are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
