View Full Version : Top of the line computer...took a bath!
ok so over past 3 weeks i have been collecting parts from online and well recently... my roommate goes and drops his can of coca cola all over my
Video card
hard drive
and RAM
i already sent in the mother board for an RMA because the bios was messed up and i had left the case open...
if anyone knows if OSCR can test my parts in a computer known to be working (or if someone can volunteer to test them for me in theirs) that would be just freaking amazing...
These are the parts that i have
Asus Striker Extreme 1.4GHz FSB
Intel Core2Duo E6750 2.66GHz
Seagte Barracuda 7200.10 250GB (needs testing)
2GB Corsair XMS RAM 1066MHz (needs testing)
ABS Tagan ITZ 900Watt PSU
Sunbeam Transformers Case w/ 7 fans
ATI RADEON 2900XT 1GB (REALLY needs testing)
I need to have these tested SOON before my RMA window closes.
My roommate doesnt want to cover much more than the hard drive so i need things to be confirmed dead or alive asap
ps: if you think its stupid im willing to pay a small fee in the end..
Sounds like you really need a replacement roommate! (wink)
already thought about that honestly, its more than computer issue that bugs me about HIM
dont i have to pay for dorms again if i do that?
anyhow back on TOPIC! i need a way to get my parts tested!!

You will not be able to RMA those parts if they are broken because of a soda spill

will they know?.. if you know for sure (even after drying the parts and letting them air dry for 2 weeks about)
if thats the case, i will save my shipping $$ on RMA and just make my roommate buy me new parts - he has already volunteered a new hard drive should it not work.
The HDD is cheap... my beast of a GPU is whats got me worring.. i payed almsot $500 for the damn thing!!
i suspected the RAM to be defective because my Asus LCD POST board was reading 'MEM TEST' when bios would freeze on me - but that was bought used, overclocked, but 'working'
my board is designed for 800mhz but the ram is 1066, and the board ran it at 1066 OC;d
ps: this is sam!, i cant log in for some stupid reason

i agree, they will probably not RMA it for spilled soda, and i'd be they'd have some way of finding out. was the equipment plugged in at the time of the spill? if not, do not plug it in, try cleaning it or have it professionally cleaned.

Go to Radio Shack and get Electronically Safe cleaner. from here (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgOgCMKpfbJo31HLAmvJEdsjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid =20071003163359AAl8LXg)

HOLY SH! THATS EXPENSIVE! (big can of special spray)
i read all of the links and looks like rubbing alcohol seems like a super idea, it disolves sugars then evaporates quick, im gonna do that
advice against it before i try it this weekend?
thanks for the info man, really appreciate it!! i have been finding more and more soda residue inside the power connectors and (the worst one) the 24 pin atx connector!!!
-Sam!
on a side note - Im still looking for someone to test 3 parts just to see if they boot up one at a time.. im willing to pay for it.. email me at hsshoura'at' msn,c0m... i cant log in for PM's here for some gay reason

Will they know? Absolutely. Companies in the business of building computer parts know when something has been abused/damaged.
Try SWS Computers if you need hardware tested (shopsws.com). They're local, reasonably priced, and very competent.
