Hello
I need to buy a cable modem for Cox high speed internet. I am looking at two models on newegg.com - The Motorola Surfboard SB5120 and the Linksys BEFCMU10. Does anyone have any experience, bad or good, with either of these? Thanks.

I just went with the one that cox gave me, it is a surfboard, not sure which version but it does fine and was a little cheaper through cox then it was online other places!

I have a surfboard as well, and it's not bad. Never had experience w/ the Linksys. What I'd suggest is like Chris said, usually if you pay attn, Cox offers the modem for free every once in a while. If you wanna make sure you own the thing, hit up someplace like Circuit City to obtain service, and they'll give you a rebate for the price of the modem, which is what I did to get mine.

Cox charged us for the cable modem -- it's a small WebSTAR (Scientific Atlanta, which is owned by Cisco) grey box that we hide under the desk. I've never seen the offer for a free one!
Either the Motorola or Linksys one is fine; extra bonus if you have a Linksys wireless router since they're stackable.

I went for the Cox surfboard as well, because it was $5-10 cheaper than anything online.
