Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with my RealTek AC'97 drivers and I desperately need your help!!!
I tried to install a game, and for some reason my computer won't run the initial loading screen, wich is a regular .exe launcher, supposedly with a bit of music playing in the background. The real mystery is that this seems to be an audio driver problem, because the game has worked in the past, and there's nothing wrong with my dvd-rom or my sound.. but when I try to run the game's launcher, my computer tries to re-install the RealTek AC'97 driver (wich I already had installed at the time) but fails to do so, saying it could not run the installation due to some unknown error.
I've tried everything I could think of: I looked up my motherboard and tried to update my drivers and chipset from the official Asus website (this resulted in having to reboot. upon reboot, the same error occured as described above, and the installation never finished), rebooted several times, tried to uninstall the RealTek drivers (this proved to be impossible for some reason) and so on. I then disabled the driver through the Device Manager, and now I'm stuck with no driver at all - and the game still won't launch...
my own guess is that some part of the driver was deleted, and now it cannot be uninstalled or reinstalled. could this be it?
What do I do now? Can one change drivers to something other than RealTek, and what then should I choose?
PLEASE help me!!
Some system information:
Operating system: Win XP
Motherboard: Asus A8N5X
