Greetings,

When I use my Ethernet cable at the dorm in which I live in, I am only able to connect at 10mbs. This is not very fast, and some online applications run rather slowly.

I am, however, able to connect to UA Public at a minimum of 54mbs.

Is there any way to increase the speed at which I can pull in at my dorm?

Thank you.

How old is your laptop, because your built in ethernet may not support anything faster then 10mbit. The industry standard is 100mbit, if your network card doesn't support anything faster, the only way to improve the performance would be to purchase an add in card and plug into that instead.

Some older dorms are wired up with CAT3 cable, which is only good for 10Mbit. The Internet connection to the dorms is capped at about 1.5Mbit so it's really not going to slow anything down (except for internal traffic, which you probably have very little of).
