Not yet released, this ad mocks Vista's UAC "feature."

As somebody that's been running Vista for a few weeks (and desperately trying to like it), and as somebody that was cursing UAC as far back as Vista's first public beta, I say with conviction that this is the most accurate (and as such, my new favorite) of the Mac vs. PC ads thus far.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's up now. http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/

Nah, that's more Norton/McAfee/Trendmicro Security Suites than UAC. UAC accomplishes something that people have been pushing for years- not running default as administrator. Obviously programs and things like that that have been written with admin in mind are going to be annoying, but it'll change. And unlike OSX Authentication, the UAC dialog runs on a seperate desktop (which is why everything locks down 'til you say yes or no) so that your approval can't be spoofed by malware.

well I know some people get annoyed by it but just look at the sheer number of people who get virus/spyware/etc. everyday and hate it. I'm sure for people who don't practice the most perfect computer security practices on their own that uac is actually helpful in the long run, although when it comes up everytime I want to go into computer management I do get annoyed, but it annoyes me even more if I turn it off and the bubble keeps coming up. Pretty much unless the majority of computer users can safely navigate the interwebs, the annoyity of uac will probably help (until people just start clicking yes to everything)

haha one of my professors did that one time right in the middle of class. He inserted a flash drive, a window popped up asking if he would like to reboot because of the new installation. Then of course he just hits yes without reading what it says and starts complaining when the computer reboots itself. I just laughed at him.

The security one is the first in a while that actually made me laugh (well, except for the foreign ones).

Just saw these on TV tonight on ABC and Comedy Central...hilariously correct!

Though I hate how the ads blow everything out of proportion.

Yeah, but when was the last time you saw truth in advertising? ;)

Going off first impressions (i.e. word of mouth, that costly piece ain't touchin' my ridiculously stable boxes), I'm going to applaud MS on UAC. If it can keep malware off people's machines, and make them realize running everything as root is the quick way to a necessitated reinstall (and I say that as a *NIX user, ANY OS where you sit as the top level account all the time is going to be owned rather quickly) is a plus in my book. Maybe I won't have to deal with so much friggin' spam in all of my inboxes, and maybe my InterHighways will go faster.

About the ad, the last bit was awesome:
"You are coming to a sad realization, cancel or allow?"
