Ok so this all randomly started over the weekend... unless they did something new to the network. Me and my roommate live in the dorms, from home I brought a D-Link DWL-G700AP wireless access point. It has works like a charm allowing us both to sign on to the network for the whole year.... that is untill this weekend. Recently It would only allow me to go on to www.arizona.edu i could go onto any page associated to the arizona network but if i typed in www.google.com it would just go back to www.arizona.edu. That is when I realized my roommate had full access to everything. We turned off his computer and viola I get full access but he is now stuck on www.arizona.edu. I checked both of out network settings and despite one computer being off both are communication with the network, recieving their own IP addresses and everything. Please this is really frustrating and I am spending way to much time messing with this... I need help.

CCIT only allows routers under certain configurations. You need to change a setting on the router. Specifically, you have to disable DHCP/NAT. If you log into your router (192.168.0.1 in your web browser), turn off DHCP.
You also have to plug the cable from the wall into one of the 4 main ports, not the 1 separate WAN port.
If you need help setting up the router, just stop by OSCR Underground (ILC 136) anytime between 9 and 5 Monday through Friday...we can walk you through it. Bring the router and power cord.

I dont mean to be rude but i was specific for a reason. Not only in my message did i say it was an access point but i gave you the brand and product number so if you though by any chance i may not know what I am talking about you could look it up. It is an access point, meaning DHCP is disabled. I know what I am doing I have setup networks before, which is why this is so frustrating.

Another thing... before you give anyone else wrong info D-Link access points are accessed by 192.168.0.50

I personally own a D-Link router and the address is 192.168.0.1. I wasn't aware that the access points are .50. I am simply trying to help -- nobody has every model and brand memorized.
However, the fact that it has an admin address in one of the reserved/private IP ranges means that DHCP/NAT must still be functioning.
Obviously your access point is not compliant, which is why you can only visit sites in the arizona.edu domain. I suggest you re-check your config page.
There is no need to be rude. You're trying to run a wireless device in the dorms, which is technically not supported. There is absolutely no guarantee that CCIT will allow them to function. I am trying to help you in every way I can, but without being in your residence hall at your computer with your access point, it's somewhat of a guess-and-check game.

I just looked at the D-Link support website. The DWL-G700AP DOES provide DHCP. Just because it's an access point doesn't mean it won't do DHCP/NATing (which is what's against the rules).

Please view page 15 of your manual which talks about your AP containing it's own DHCP server, also if you login to your router you will notice a button that says DHCP in the left sidebar right under the LAN button. This needs to be disabled as Dan has stated for your access to be restored.
Keep in mind we are providing free support to you and attempting to insult the intelligence of one of our techs and/or badgering them is only going to result in not being able to take advantage of our service and you left to fend for yourself.

Hello
I have just bought a D link DWL 700 AP.
I have configured it to "Dynamic IP"
I have switched the dhcp in the AP off.
I have plugged it into my switch which is connected to a router which is the DHCP server, with a starting rage of IP's from 10.0.0.2 and upward, the router is 10.0.0.1 and is the standard gateway.
There is only one subnetmask and that is 255.255.255.0
On one laptop, running Windows XP pro. which is set up to "automatically obtain an IP address" I can see the AP SSID and log on with no problems.
On my other laptop, running Vista Home, which is also set to "automatically obtain an IP address" I can see the AP SSID, but it just wont log me on. The error message is something like "there was an error logging on"... or something like that.
I have rebooted several times, I have reset the AP, I have deactivated the wireless netcard on the laptop, and enabled it again, but with the very same result.
I have not encrypted the AD yet.
Have you any idea why Vista is doing this?

If you're a student, my suggestion is to bring the router and laptop into the Help Desk in the ILC (room 136). Hopefully someone can examine it, but if you're in the dorms...no guarantees.
But judging by the 10.x.x.x addresses, something is still using DHCP/NAT -- which is not permitted.

On my other laptop, running Vista Home, which is also set to "automatically obtain an IP address" I can see the AP SSID, but it just wont log me on. The error message is something like "there was an error logging on"... or something like that.
For some reason, my Vista won't allow me to log on my AP when my WEP authentication is set to "shared", it says something like there is a connection error. Setting it to "open" does it for me. A window prompting the network password should pop up after you click on the network detected.
Btw, my D-Link AP config is at 192.168.1.1. :p
But I do have a question, I remember I see options regarding turning DHCP on or off in Vista, but couldn't find it anymore, can anyone tell me where it is? Thanks a heap,
