Hello, i have just bought a macbook, and am very new to them, although i am not computer illiterate.
anyway, i ahve a belkin wireless, router, and Airpot can detect it but will not connect to it (i have connected twice though, and i dont know how)
when i scan for devices it finds it,then says ''there was an error joining the irport network belkin 45g''
network diagnostics doesnt work; as i do not WEP protection and i cannot continue without a password, assistant doesnt work either. or at least i cant help it.
this is really depressing me, if anyone can help id be very grateful

Macs are typically plug n' play, the issue doesn't seem to be your belkin router (USB, correct?), that is if you are connecting to your router through OS X the proper way. The issue is probably router side, it seems that it may not be configured properly. Do you know how to get into your airport's settings?
To configure your router, do the following:
1) Plug in an ethernet cable to your macbook, and connect the other end to the router.
2) Open a web browser, and type in the following address: http://10.0.1.1
3) If you are unable to connect to the airport, repeat the above procedure but attempt to use 192.168.1.1 or 172.16.1.1 as the IP address.
4) Make sure wirelses is enabled, and that there are no security settings currently set to your wireless. If there is, make sure your laptop is compliant when connecting (security wise, with a password, or a WEP key).
If you don't know how to do the above, repost what settings are visible in your airport, or call 520-626-TECH for more assistance.

Connect via cable and update the routers firmware.
http://www.belkin.com/support/ - go there and you can choose the product and get a firmware update.
Also, have you been able to connect to other wireless networks with no problems or is this the first?

Make sure Long Preamble is checked instead of Short Preamble. Some routers default to Short Preamble.
