With the onset of the "UAWireless Network" VPN access has been extremely inconsistent for me. I'm not sure if the problem is location dependent, but I'm always connected to UAPublic. I have the most recent version of the VPN Software running on MacOS X.4.8. It's very frustrating not having client access to e-mail. Any suggestions are appreciated!

You do not need to run the VPN software. Connect to UAWiFi instead, which uses encryption (security).

UAWiFi prompts me for a username and password. When I use my NETID I get "there was an error joining the network UAWiFI". Is there another login I should be using?

Have you registered your netid on this page? https://netid.ccit.arizona.edu/wireless_reg.php

If not, do so, wait a couple of minutes, then try UAWiFi again with your netid as your login info.

Does this mean that VPN does not work on UAPublic?

VPN works on UAPublic, but I think it doesn't handle switching between APs very well. If you're sitting in one place where one AP has stronger signal than the others, you should be OK, but if it is flipflopping, VPN will freak out.

Why waste time running VPN software on UAPublic when you can just use UAWiFi?

Why waste time running VPN software on UAPublic when you can just use UAWiFi?

When I run UAWiFi on my laptop, it is very unstable as in sometimes it works fine...and usually while i'm doing something, it won't connect to anything even though it is connect, it thinks that it is disconnected and ask me if I want to reconnect and goes to my other default connection that I use at home..I dial up. (yes, i still use dial up, I'm poor) And then i connects fine for a few minutes and restarts the cycle. So I just use UAPublic and run VPN and works very nice a stable just like UAWiFi is suppose to.

Is it because of my wireless card? I got my laptop in 2003, its a b and g wifi built into my laptop

As long as your card supports WPA it should work fine with UAWiFi. Download the latest drivers maybe...

If it's Intel Proset, you must, must, must use the Windows Wireless Configuration. Otherwise you'll get the exact problems you're having.

A lot of times when I try to connect to UAWiFi, I have to do the windows zero configuration everytime I want to connect or I at least have to go change the securety from WEP to WPA. It seams like all of the UAWiFi configuration settings are saved except for just changing the securety. After configuring it, I am not manualy dissconecting or changing any of the settings. Why is it that it forgets what securety to use?

That happens occasionally on mine as well, I believe it is related to the PEAP setting.

ok thanks Dan for letting me know that I am not the only one. I take it there is not an easy fix for this?

I've often encountered this problem while helping people with UAWifi on their Windows laptops down here in the Zone - they can't connect because for some reason the encryption was switched to WEP or no encryption. I've even had a few "repeat" clients come back because the setting didn't hold. Changing it back is simple but annoying.

So yeah, you're not the only one - I'd almost go so far as to say that it's a common problem.

I had it for a while. It's working consistently for me now.
