Ichat = Mac Only

I am sure you can find a clone of it somewhere, but don't bet on it.
AIM not working for you? I would suggest Downloading AIM, then getting DeadAIM. Allows your to ALIAS SN Names, and allows you to TAB up the AIM Chats. Very handy. 1 IM Window with tabs.

Andy -- use Trillian. It's a 3rd party messenger client. I use it to be logged into AIM, MSN, ICQ, IRC, Yahoo!, Jabber, and Rendezvous all at once. It's way better than DeadAIM.

i use trillian... but i liked the interface for Ichat... I was just wondering if there was something comperable... i liked the idea of having a rolling window when new chats come in. seen anything like that.

Trillian's really ugly?... Jesus guys, that's why they make skins. WinAMP is really ugly too, but that's why they make skins. If Trillian was some kind of VB program with beige windows and no customization support, then I'd say it's ugly. As it is, they spend a good deal of time designing the default skin to provide easy access to all the features of Trillian, but then they give you the option of modding the interface to look like whatever you want. The reason they have skins is because they respect a user's right to customize their interface and recognize that the same interface isn't always right for every user. All you have to do is go grab one of the hundreds of free skins offered for it to make the interface fit your personal needs, but I suppose there's no accounting for laziness.

There's also gaim, as Jon pointed out, which doesn't support skinning and has an almost linux-like interface. It is, however, much lighter-weight than Trillian and tends to be snappier to work with.

Dang, Take a Chill Pill.

I KNOW it has skins, but its base skin is pretty ugly. Woowee..

Dang, grab a colloquialism from this decade.

My point was, lots of apps don't even have the option to switch the look and feel, and you guys are ragging on one that has some of the best support for skinning you can find, just because the default doesn't fit your style.

Oh, and the Andy Griffith Show called. They want their ridiculous exclamation back.

I think the award for consistently hilarious posts needs to go to Adam...

Form follows function. Trillian looks ugly, yes, but it gets the job done far better than anything else out there so I won't complain about a lousy GUI.

FWIW, I think that flashy overdone GUIs are ugly. Simple is always best.

But it is it funny because I'm insanely opinionated to the point of Stalinist resistance to other viewpoints, or is it my biting satiric wit coupled with intricate yet relevant social commentary conspiring madly in a sarcastic stew of vitriol-flavored gaiety which one can only view with the morbid fascination normally reserved for a train wreck involving a clown car?

Either way, I'd like to thank the Academy, my friends and family, Amit for a continual supply of fuel for my creative fire, Lars for his support through badgering, and the rest of the OSCR forumites for their contributions, large and small that make my particular brand of sardonic comedy possible in such a medium.

Hmmm, I actually think Trillian looks pretty good, even with the default skin. I haven't found a skin I like better yet. I blurred my scheiße, obviously.

1) Thanks Adam :)
2) Kyle: What the...When I downloaded Trillian 1st semester it looked NOTHING like that. Mine had some crazy space-aged/childish thing going on, and had Octopus smileys and what not. Thought it was the most hidious thing I ever saw. That skin, is actually very nice. Strange...maybe I just got shafted in the install. :-\

Yeah, I couldn't help but wonder what skin you were referring to, so I posted that screenshot. This is the "Whistler" (default) trillian skin. Both Trillian 2 and 3 have used this skin as default as far as I know...maybe it was an older version or something.

They need a new default skin. Whistler was the codename for XP and that's what a pre-RTM version of the Luna theme looked like. Eww.

Also, if you want a good resource of trillain skins, including some that aren't on the Cerulean website, check here. You can specify which version of Trillian you have in sub catagories thing. The Cerulean skin page is here. Below is my current skin. It's called futurist, grabbed it from some random website.

I enjoy Whistler quite a bit. I think Kid has nailed down a wonderfully effective interface. But, the extreme number of skins is testament to the fact that plenty of people prefer something different.
