Two dual-core Xeons, wow. Not really an entry-level computer, since you can't really get it below $2125 (even if you downgrade to the 2.0GHz Xeons)...and that doesn't include a monitor. Price might be slightly less for education buyers, of course.
Speaking of monitors, the 30" LCD is now only $2000, probably to help it compete with the Dell 3007FPW.
Apple also announced the new Xserve with Xeons, thus completing the Intel switch.

Was anyone else hoping for a redesigned case? It's not that the Power Mac G5's case was bad, I'm just getting bored by it.

I've always loved the G5 case (so much sexier than the old Quicksilver cases!) - but it's so friggin heavy. Besides losing weight, I don't think they can really improve on it myself.
The new case makes removing/replacing RAM and hard drives really easy, it looks like. A new feature of 10.5 Leopard is "Time Machine," Apple's backup solution, and they're claiming that you can replicate dead hard drives, so easier-to-replace drives may just come in handy.
//I still think something like a RAID setup would be better
//but RAID doesn't have Apple's sense of style
If you max out the configuration (16 GB RAM, the 3.0 GHz procs, 4 hard drives, etc.), it's about $13,000 without monitor. Expensive.
Going to the other end of the spectrum and following up Dan's earlier post - dropping down to dual 2.0 GHz procs, a 160 GB drive, and using the Academic discount, you can get a brand spanking new Mac Pro for $1,962.

I was personally hoping for a newer case design myself. There was also talk of releasing new cinema displays too :(

Personally by making the MacPro in Dual processor configurations only it looks as if apple is really trying to separate the MacPro and iMac for entry level and professional users

I'll wait 6 months - 1 year before buying this one... People who'll buy this will be Steve's guinea pig like the rest.

I heard that too - new Apple displays with iSights and IR receivers for the Front Row remote.
It could still happen, though. Probably not at WWDC, though - WWDC is still more for developers than end users, and such a display won't benefit developers much.
//we may still get that legendary iPhone and true video iPod before the end of the year, too

September will see the release of the updated iPod Nano. Brushed metal in different colors (a la iPod Mini), and slightly larger capacities.
