anytime i try to talk when there is background noise, the mic pics up what is going through my headset and makes it reverberate back at other people i talk to, and very loudly apparently, i have plantronics headset (brand new thought it was the headset) and ac97 buiilt in audioi know its not the heaset or the programs because it happens on ingame ventrillo and any other voice program, im thinking maybe a crossed wire in the souncard????

Im confused by what you are saying is "in game". Which game are you playing, and when you are using Ventrilo, do you have it configured properly?

Give me some background information on this, I own a Vent server, and chances are I can troubleshoot your issue. If you are using Ventrilo and coordination with another VoIP program, chances are it's simply a config issue instead of a hardware malfunction.

Let me know! :)

Same exact thing happens with me. I'm using Onboard AC'97 Sound and whatever is coming through my Sennheiser Headset can be heard by the other listeners whenever I talk. So for example if i'm playing music on my computer and I talk on ventrilo or TS the music is transmitted through my mic. I have all my settings correct as i've read all the topics about this. I have tried multiple mics, I aswell think it's something wrong with the onboard sound itsself, unless somebody has somehow fixed this problem. Thanks in advance if anybody figures it out. btw when I used my webcam mic, it didn't transmit my sounds although it had a loud annoying buzz.

if you still have the receipt, see about taking it back and getting a USB model. not only do you not have as many of these problems, you can also do a bit more with USB... I use Vent through the headset, in-game talk through the mic and game noise through the speakers. I have a USB 350 (logitech), paid about $45 for it, but you should be able to get one for $30

If its an echo and not a high pitch sound, this is caused from having the microphone unmuted as playback in the Audio properties found on your windows taskbar, or in alsamixer if you use linux/alsa...

If it is a high pitch wine, its apparently because 'AC97' sucks. I've read some theories about overheating but basicaly its trash.

Good Luck,

If you want to fix that get an external sound card. There are cheap USB ones that work well for just microphone input. Personally, I would get a USB mic with noise canceling. That is what I use and it works well. Logitech has one that I got on ebay for about $14. I think there more around $30 in store though.
