I just got my Dad's old Sony Clie PEG-T665C running Palm OS v4.1. This is pretty old but still works and I would like to set it up with my Powerbook which has the latest (10.4.6) OS version. I am interested in 3 things:

1) I want to sync this palm with my iCal and Address book NOT the palm desktop software which I hate (after seeing it on my dad's computer)
2) The install CD says windows only, so can I get this palm to sync with my powerbook? Anywork arounds, if needed?
3) Sony included a lot of junk programs on the palm by default even aftering resetting it. Anyway for me to delete these? How?
4) The Palm OS is really old, and my dad just got a Palm TX which has a ton of improvements in the OS and I was wondering is there anyway for me to upgrade the OS to a newer version. Perhaps not as advanced as the Palm TX but a little more than what it is at (Palm OS v4.1). If not are there anywork arounds?

Thank you,
TM

You will need to install the Palm Desktop (which includes HotSync) in order to get the Palm to sync at all. However, installing Palm Desktop doesn't mean that you'll need to use the Palm calendar. You might be able to use iCal and just do the syncing using the Palm software. You can download the latest Palm desktop here: http://www.palm.com/us/software/desktop/mac.html I don't know about Palm OS upgrades, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Hey TM,

So I use and sync my palm with my mac everyday, but I don't do it with the Apple or Palm based software. I shelled out $35 for a program called MissingSync created by Mark/Space. MissingSync essentially takes the headache out of the Palm setup and really makes installing software easy. It also supports alternative Palm OS devices such as your Sony. Also, from Palm's website, you should be able to find OS upgrades. Hope this helps! If you have any questions, let me know.

I also coughed up the bucks for MissingSync. It works much better than the Palm stuff did, especially with bluetooth synching.
