Hi,
I was wondering why there are no AMD motherboards with DDR2 capability? Is it because it hasn't been developed yet for AMD motherboards, or is it simply a functionality issue between Intel and AMD?

Please and thank you

AMD chips don't support DDR2.......yet. Their newer chips will support it very soon. DDR400 (the max AMD supports right now) is fine for 99% of people.

AMD processors don't have a front side bus (FSB), however, so the advantages of DDR2 are minimal on that type of motherboard.

Why do you ask....are you shopping for a new motherboard?

I believe the new AMD Chipset that is going to support DDR2 is going to be released this summer *Fingers Crossed* but of course Intel has already begun research on using DDR3 with their chipsets.

The AM2 chipset will essentially be a socket 939 processor with DDR2 capability.
It should be released on June 6th.

Here is an excellent article about AMD socket AM2 (that uses DDR2) and AMD socket 939 (that uses DDR):
