A few months ago I formatted an older laptop that I thought I had backed up everything from. However I learned this afternoon that there were a few folders containing pictures that were hidden from view. I have obtained the laptop, and shut it down to prevent any further overwriting of the hard drive. My question is which program would be the best to use to attempt to recover the lost pictures? I know there are dozens of them out there, but I would like to know if anyone has used one before, and if it worked for them Thank you.
The only program I've used like that was called Restoration ( http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html ) it did the job as advertised - got a few papers I needed back from the great beyond. Just make sure when getting your files, you write to a different drive (like a flash drive or separate partition), because if you try to copy it to the same drive, you may end up overwriting the data.

I'm a big fan of PC Inspector file recovery. It can find and undelete all sorts of things, mount unstable drives with a dead MFT, etc etc. http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm

It recovers things with varying levels of success, the more times a particular bit has been written, the less likely you are to be able to recover it. Have some stuff you wanna recover?

Bit late for the original query maybe, but if anyone else is looking, http://www.recoverdeletedpictures.com provides a load of info and advice on how to undelete photos and recover deleted pictures.
Hope its of use to someone.
