Hi,

I am new in the field of audio and video editing. I have started a project of my brother's wedding movie. I am using Ulead video studio for editing. The problem is that there is a particular clip in the movie of which I want to retain the actual audio. But the actual audio is very noisy.
The clip is about when we are talking, but there is a very annoying drumbeat sound in the background that makes our talking unclear. Is there any way I can remove that Drumbeat sound from the audio file?

I don't know if any of the programs you have have this functionality, but I've done a bit of audio cleaning in my day using Adobe Audition. In single track mode, you can go file> extract audio from video. Select a portion of the audio that has the sound you want to cut out, and ONLY that sound. Under the effects> Noise Reduction tab, click the "capture noise reduction profile". Then select the portion of the file that you want to reduce the noise in, and select the "noise reduction" filter. Play around with the settings in each of the effects to get the best sound you can. I often switch the noise reduction settings to "keep noise only" while I'm tweaking things, so I can hear if anything important is gettuing cut out.
This process is good for removing constant low lying constant noise, I don't know how well it will work for punctuated sounds like a drum beat.
Feel free to come by the Zone to talk to me if you have any questions, I'm here MWF 3-7 and TR from 4-7.

Audacity also has a similar feature - http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I think the steps Mr. Harrison gave you will work the exact same way in Audacity (been a while since I've used it).

I dunno, just wanted to plug the most powerful of the free/open source Audio Editing programs.

MAC Sound help.....

In Soundtrack Pro (Mac program), there is a pretty good noise reducer. On campus, you can stop on by the Multimedia Learning Lab or the Zone to use this program. For locations, http://www.oscr.arizona.edu/locations/multimedia
Our numbers are posted there also so feel free to give us a ring a ding!

From Final Cut:
1. Make sure none of your clips are selected
2. File > Export >For Soundtrack*
3. Now in Soundtrack: Select all of your waveforms (Edit>Select All)
4. Process > Set noise print > Reduce noise

Mark Fischer taught me the above:D

An additional link with Soundtrack's "Quick fix" option http://www.macworld.com/2005/07/reviews/finalcutsountrack/index.php

*Soundtrack is an integrated program within FinalCut made by Apple, it makes it really easy to edit your audio, back and forth between FCP and Sountrack.

Completely removing unwanted background noise is not possible. With FlexiMusic Wave Editor, using Noise Reduction command, can minimize the background music, but cannot completely mute it off.

Hi, not sure if im posting in the right forum, but im looking for a program that enables you to open an MP#, say one youve extracted off a CD, and splits up the different instruments. I previously worked in a computer shop and i remember fixing a customers computer and he had SONAR i think it was, not sure which one, but i opened an mp3 with it and it split up all the different instruments into separate tracks and you could listen to just the drums, or just the vocals it was really good. If anyone knows of a program that does this it would be really cool if you let me know which one it is :) thanks. oh, i have cakewalk sonar producer edition 6.0 but im not sure if this program does what i want it to do. any help would be greatly appreciated.
