Ok my index.htm page has existed just fine up until recently. Mai-Ly has had the same problem. After we define our site locally and remotely, when we try & upload the new version (from the local), it says "error occured: please contact your administrator," and then often it will say "Did not read the correct number of bytes!" Which is correct, because in the remote info, the index.htm will be listed with 0Kb, where as it is 2kb locally. I have reset my permissions, and I have enough server space. My other pages are working, but not my index!
Thanks......
Rachel

Don't use Dreamweavers File Managment. Launch up Fugu/Fetch/SSH/Smart FTP and use it transfer your data. I have run into this problem with Dreamweaver before, yet any and all other FTP clients work. Its probably the simplest way to solve the problem.

I just talked to Rachel on the phone and she said that she tried the same thing with Fugu and had the same problem. She has had this problem with another computer in another lab also, so I said that it must be a server problem - not a software problem. She also knows of another person who recently has had the exact same problem, so I told her that I would look up the contact info of the appropriate admin at the CCIT. I will post it here.

621-HELP is the only contact info given for problems with U-System stuff.

I looked through all their on-line instructions and FAQs, but there is nothing to address this issue. This is the link for problems with u-system webpages, but it just talks about permissions and more general stuff.

You might try looking at your disk quotas. If you're uploading files that end up being 0kb, its quite possible that you're account is full and the server wont let you create anything new.

hey- so... ive actually had this problem for the past 2 months-- i just sorta ignored it til now- my index page doesnt show up- and everytime i create one in my local folder, it loads up 0kb... ive tried dreamweaver fugu and ssh-- but nothing works, and ive only used up 35mb of my 100mb... so i dont know wut else to do... how would i check my disk quotas?
and this is weird-- i took one of my pages on my local folder and changed the actual page so that the size went from 6kb to 7kb.. i uploaded it to the server, the size of the file didn't change, however when i open it from the server my changes have been made, but when i type the url in a browser the old page still pops up--
rachel r u still having a problem?

One of you or both of you need to call 621-HELP

I just tried to call, but they are only open 8AM to 5PM (Mon to Fri)

I will call tomorrow if neither of you have it resolved, but it would be better for one of you to call so you can decribe it better and maybe work with them over the phone.

In response to Mark's suggestion, I atually checked my quota and it says I have only used half of my alloted space..
Of course now I wonder if that is half of my 50 out of 100 mb, or half of my 100 dedicated to webpage..
Hmmmm
I'll ask you when I see you, Amit

I just called the CCIT help desk and they said that they have to see the problem occur and need to have the person logged in to fix the problem.

The guy on the phone said that he can't upload files to your accounts without actually logging-in. You could calland give it to them over the phone, but you might as well stop by next time you are in the CCIT.

Their Help Desk is located on the ground floor of the CCIT in the south hallway - Room 218.

So I will talk to the Help desk tomorrow & share updates here..

the quota for your u-system account is 50mb.. :puke:

your email inbox has 100mb, and is separate from your home directory on the u-system

the only time i've seen this happen is when i've reached 50mb

Allrighty! Kyle has helped solve the problem.....I have indeed exceeded my quota.
To check quota, we did the following:

Opened up an Ssh program, in this case Terminal,
1) Log in
2) Typed in du -h

I have 54mb..4 mb over my limit!

Thanks everyone for your help, I really appreciate it!
