I currently have a Dell Axim X50v, and would love to be able to use the schools wireless internet. I know it's not officialy supported on PDA's, but i was wondering if anyone has gotten a PDA with PocketPC 2003 (or really any of the windows versions) to connect, or if there is any advice you could give. Mine does have a VPN program on it, but i'm not exactly sure how i need to set it all up.

Thanks, Dan

It's worth a shot. Register your MAC address in your student link account.

To do that, log in to student link, select the registration tab, then DHCP. Add a new MAC address, select any operating system, and agree not to be evil.

If your VPN client on the PDA will accept PCF files, you can get them on the UA VPN page, here https://sitelicense.arizona.edu/vpn/

If not, try installing the software on your home machine, then looking at the settings so you can set it up manually in the software.

You'll likely have trouble getting the password that is stored in the settings if you're doing it manually though, it's 16 characters long, but beyond that, I don't know.

I'll be very interested to see if you get this working, as I'll be getting a windows mobile device pretty soon, and it should be interesting to see if it can VPN.

One of the Tech Leads, Chris Stoecker, has an HP/Compaq PDA that he gets wireless on IIRC. Try talking to him.

Yeah, so, you just need to register the mac address on student link. I listed the OS as "other" but I doubt it really matters.
I haven't gotten the VPN to work, I need to figure out the preshared key or.. something.

Yeah I got it working on my PDA. But have never used VPN, unforunatlly I use an email client that doesn't support the mobile IE so I can't even access it on the PDA but as far as just browsing the web it works fine. All I did was register the mac then turned on the wifi looked for UAWireless, said connect and changed the settings to connect to the Internet insted of connect to work. If you need more help with it feel feel free to bring it down to the underground.
