If I restart the computer I can access the internet using road runner. If I leave the computer on after closing IE and come back a few hours later, I have to restart the computer to gain access to the internet. I believe this poroblem started when I installed ActiveSync for use with a PDA.

My first step would be to uninstall ActiveSync and see if this fixes your issue.

I'd say this is a good time to consider a spyware scan, as certain spywares do strange and interesting things to your networking stack, which could certainly manifest themselves in this way. If that doesn't help, you might also want to check your manufacturer's website for any network driver updates, in case some part of your network card's drivers became corrupted or overwritten. If you're using a router in your home network between the cable modem and your PC, try plugging the PC directly into the cable modem and see if the problem still happens, and you might want to restart your cable modem as well, as sometimes they get a bit cantankerous. If none of that works, I'd start hitting more official channels for support like Roadrunner tech support and your computer manufacturer, as this may be a service issue with Roadrunner that they can diagnose more effectively, or it may be a hardware problem with your PC.

Luck be with ye, unregistered.

I'd try and rule out the software issue, as Adam suggested. Scan with Spybot and/or Ad-Aware. If you feel this is too much for you to handle, feel free to call 520-626-8324 and set up an appointment with one of us...we'd be glad to help you out.

This may seem like a dump point, but are you able to dial out? Are you unable to get connected again, or do you simply have the connection dropped? Sometimes if someone tries to call you while using dialup it can drop the connection, but I would not expect this to prevent you from reconnecting.
