What are the specific technical differences between the NVIDIA Quadro FX Go1400 256MB OpenGL graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 Ultra 256MB.

I know that the Quadro is a workstation card that is optimized for CAD, 2-D, and 3-D professionals and the GeForce is for gamers. I know all the basics, but I want to know about pixel pipelines, architecture, shaders, and all other relevant things to doing multimedia/3-D production on a laptop.

I haven't taken to the whitepaper documents, but that is my next stop. Thanks to anyone who can be of assistance.

Andrew:

Its wonders what the Nvidia site would put on their website isnt it ;)

Quadro FX:
Shader Model 3.0
Memory Bandwidth: 19.4 Gbps
__ Pipes / __ Vertex Shaders
Architecture: Based of the Quadro Series and the mobile sets that preceed it.

GeForce:
Shader Model 3.0
Memory Bandwidth: 35.2 Gbps
12 Pipelines / 5 Vertex Shaders.
Architecture: Based of that of the entire 6800 series and Mobile series that preceed it.

I think of the GeForce 6800 Ultra GO more as a standard 6800 as most of its specs match it instead.

I'm pretty sure the GeForce has a higher clock rate on it as well. In short, not sure which you are geared for, CAD / 2D Intensive streamlined work or crazy amounts of gaming.

The Architectures are really no different in the way they interface with the board etc. But for the 6800 at least, the architecture is dramatically different than there FX brethern. In short if you look up the architectures for their desktop equalivents you will understand what the Mobile series has to offer.

If you are looking for a little of both worlds go with the 6800Go.
